Hello all!
So, the video below really explains everything, but I will give you the jist…
If you’ve been following me, you know that recently my song, “Again,” was used in this Youtube video about Twilight. And, it got an amazing response (over 730,000 views as of today). Part of that response, was Twilight fans asking me to write a song for the next installment of the story, New Moon. After much thought (and after “experts” telling me it’s not worth it), I’ve decided to put it back in the Twilight fans’ hands.
I want your help in creating a song to pitch to New Moon. Starting May 24th, I’m going to be documenting our journey in creating a piece of work that I want to perfectly communicate Twilight fans’ feelings about Edward and Bella’s relationship.

P.S. Just a disclaimer… I can’t accept any lyrical suggestions. A song can’t have 100’s of writers. That just wouldn’t make sense, right? But trust me, there are plenty of areas where I can use your help.

Hey Josh,
Writing a song for Twilight’s New Moon is a brilliant idea. I recently discovered your band on youtube.com before all of this Twilight stuff too off and I had already read the books at that time. When I heard your song…well actually many of your songs…they made me instantly think of different scenes in the Twilight series. Aside from Again, the song Step Outside hit it for me. I don’t think you have read the third or 4th books yet, but I think that song really defines the relationship/tension that forms between Bella and Jacob later in the series. It also has significance in New Moon when Edward continually suggests that he and Bella be apart.
I think that, as you are reading New Moon, you should pay close attention to what the events in New Moon really mean for Bella. Any song that you would write for this book…even in the end…would have to be a slower, almost sad sort of song but with lighter, hopeful tones in the back ground. The events in New Moon really portray the impending changes in Bella’s life. Edward leaving, her general detachment from the “normal” world (especially now that she knows there is this whole other world out there), the idea that in the end, things can’t be the original happy ever after that both Edward and Bella had hoped for and imagined in the beginning. She was going to have to change in very significant ways for that to be possible. Also, the idea that Bella gains and loses Jacob in this book are all significant emotional pieces of this book. Though very important, this book is very life changing for everyone involved. Just try to pay attention to that fact.
One more important point in this book is that no one seems to be able to get what they want, but they are fighting for it anyway. Edward wants Bella to be safe from his Vampire world so he leaves, but he finds himself fighting internally to stay away. Jacob wants Bella to love and be with him, but she is constantly preoccupied with thoughts of Edward. However, Jacob gives it all hes got to try to win Bella over and make her happy. Bella wants nothing more than to have Edward back, but he doesn’t seem to come, so she is forced to fight for her sanity and fight to never forget about Edward. This novel is very heavy.

Second I’ll try not to ruin your reading experience with this comment. Hope I’ll succeed.
New Moon is saturated with the despair and depression of true love lost. How to survive when you have lost the single most important person in your life?
One way to survive is to disconnect your self from the world around you, become a Zombie. Months pass and all of a sudden you are forced to wake up or lose the last grain of hope that you have to hold on to.
The road back to real life is a hard one and it’s one that you walk best with a true, loving and caring friend by your side, to support you and bring the light back into your life. A friend to fill up the hole inside you! A friend to warm up the space where your heart used to be! The sun is shining again, you experience brief moments of happiness and your wound slowly begin to heal.
The road becomes complicated by the friends love for you and your own desperate need to hold on to this friend, while you all along know that you can become nothing more than friends, because you will never ever give up on you love for the lost one.
At some point your friend changes, he turns away from you for reasons that you cannot grasp. Again you feel the heartbreak and an entirely new hole appears inside your chest intertwined with the one that was already there. Again you’re lost, bewildered and alone.
Fortunately your friendship is strong enough to overcome the obstacles that are set in front of you by forces you never imagined existed.
I will stop here so I don’t ruin anything for you but I have lots more if you’re interested.

It’s like the heavens designed Edward and Bella’s love and to only each other they belong. Reach deep within the story and let your mind explore the wonderment of the unwritten. It will astound you.

i just saw your video on youtube
i think its an absolutley brilliant idea as well!
As of parts of the books you should aim at, i think the ones with the MOST emotion would be of course, when Edward leaves her and she becomes numb. Another would be when she begins to feel conflicted between her ever strong love she still has for Edward, but the seeds for what could, prehaps turn into love one day, with Jacob, and the confusion she has.
Thirdly would be when she running to save Edward, through the crowd, the anxiety and helplessness she feels and not being able to get there at time.
Ill also suggest, prehaps reading Midnight Sun (the released 12 chapters on Stephanie Meyer’s website) as it saturated with the feelings that ultimatley lead Edward to leave Bella for her own protection.
I think a ballad might be best to signify the despair she undergoes, i just don’t think an upbeat song would fit quite right.
Anyway, good luck! I believe you have a voice that can do this, and do it well!

Hey! I just posted on the youtube vid and I want to give you a suggestion here. Its a line I love from new moon and it is actually a really powerful one. When Edward leaves Bella (hope you have got this far, I don’t want to spoil it) she says she : did not resurface. Then it goes through the months. I just think that something so powerful should have its own special part or parts built around it in the song.
This is just my personal view though and I obviuosly think there should be more as New Moon is so emotional but that might be somethign to think about.

Hey Josh.
Your music is amazing and i must say, the lyrics to
“Again” really fits the mood of the movie.
Everything from feeling Edward’s eyes surprises Bella
to kiss twisted and being in the dark! It’s great
that you’re doing this and i hope you get your song
to be part of NM. I think NM is a much depressing movie
than twilight and the movie will be needing a lot
of instrumental and kind of sad-tones? to it?
Also Edward leaves Bella in the woods by herself
after he leaves her, and she just runs after
him, searches for him deep within the woods.
Crying, depressed, and really emotional.
Maybe a song during her “search” and then
gets lost in the dark?

Hey Josh!
I love the idea of making a song for New Moon.
Well, The nicest part for a song(guys! for a song ok, i didn’t say its nice in the book) is that on how you explain the part where Edward was thinking something which bothered Bella then suddenly he came to talk to her that he is leaving her for her own safety but doing that made her be in trouble more. Then everything disappeared, every memory of Edward disappeared from Bella’s room, all there’s left of him with her is the memories they spent together. Then she fell in love with Jacob but she didn’t forget Edward. She did a lot of things like trying the motorcycle, going inside a club and jumped of a cliff which made Alice think she died but at first he didn’t believe her, but when he called to pretend to be Dr. Carlisle which Jacob answered, and Jacob told him that Charlie was in a funeral which made him think that it was Bella’s funeral, convinced him to go to Italy to kill himself(by provoking the Volturi) and when Alice mentioned it to Bella then Bella tried to stop Edward then they became together.. maybe in the part where Bella said she doesn’t want to sleep ‘coz Edward might go again but he promised that he wouldn’t leave her ever again.
Phew! haha.. well, that part’s kinda the really exciting one. And your song Again is cool!

OME I think that this is a brilliant idea!! Then, WHEN (not if =P) the song is chosen for the soundtrack, Twilight fans that contributed will know that they helped make the film. That would be cool. I think that there’s a couple of bits in the book that you could do the song for; when Edward is leving Bella, when it goes through the “zombie” months, when she starts hanging out with Jake, when Jake leaves Bella, when Bella’s trying to find Edward in Italy, or when Edward and Bella are back together again. Yes, I am bored, yes, I have no life =/ Great idea though, so original!!

i just found out about this and i think it’s an AMAZING idea. i think my favorite part of new moon is actually jacob’s and bella’s relationship. don’t get me wrong. i am team edward all the way, but i think new moon was specifically written to show the other side of bella, the side that didn’t have edward beside her. if you’re writing a song for new moon, i think you should be open to writing about jacob, too. it’s his story after all. i downloaded a few of your songs from itunes and i realized that you made both upbeat songs and ballads both sound good. if you do decide to go with an upbeat song, you should write about jake (when he hangs out with bella). if you go with a ballad, you probably will want to write about edward (him leaving and all that) or maybe about bella (when edward leaves). i didn’t want to put too many spoilers since i’m not sure how far you’ve gone in reading the book. good luck and i hope you get your song in the movie.
p.s. by the way, have you read twilight? it might be a good idea to start with that if you want to write about edward and bella because you will definitely understand the dynamics of their relationship more from that book. hope this helps. : )

The love and attraction between Edward and Bella is other worldly, there are a lot of hints in Twilight and New Moon that points towards Bella’s personality and mental makeup containing something that makes her destined to be with Edward. It’s Bella’s faith to be with Edward and everything that happens in the books is pushing her and him in that direction. The things that happen make their love possible and impossible at the same time.
It is as if they are they are the perfect couple and “gods” have made them in a way that they match each other in any way possible. You get the feeling that Bella’s and Edwards meeting is not coincidence but some kind of “Sick joke played by the gods in a Greek tragedy” or a Shakespearian twist to the storyline because their love is completely impossible, in so many ways. No matter what any one of them does the bond between them is too strong (unbreakable)
The fact that Edward can’t read her mind (which only makes her more interesting to him), the smell of her blood (it sings to him), Bella’s lack of fear, her absolute belief that Edward has a soul, her belief that love will conquer all obstacles, her yearning to be with him for all eternity, her willingness to go above en beyond for her loved ones and her maturity is all important.
They simply can’t live without each other. Bella is slightly insane and Edward is tormented beyond belief while they are apart.

I think u really need to look for the relastionship between Bella and Jacob and maybe at the end when she is in italy with the Volturi?? But I think its a great idea writing a song 4 New Moon! if you think you wont finish the book in time here is a place in the book to get some great inspiration for a good song:
towards the end about the 3rd to last chapter where edward is trying to show bella that he left for her own good and that he loved her all along he then he compares bella to the night sky so romanticly and passionitly kisses her finally both realize they cant live with out each other.
i know you said no lyric suggestions but i want to spread my work some ow even though i am only 13 my whole town thinks i have some real talent tell me if you like it or not so here it is:

I love the idea and the song Agian, but I would tone it down to a more softer song. I came up with a name for the song, if you want to do a brand new song. Its called “Break Apart”, its when Edward leaves Bella in the forest. I don’t care if you like the name or not, and you can use it if you would like to. I think I got the name from Again, but I think it would be best if it was a ballad with a little bit of an up beat.

I love your song “Again”. It’s amazing.
Have you considered doing a song about Jacob trying to wake up the old Bella? The titles I came up with are tied between “Fix the Unfixable” or “I’m Still Here”. Especially because she’s always so oblivious to him.
It can have elements from him being jealous of Edward because he’s not even there and he still wins Bella and have him still fight for her.

I LOVE this idea! I think a soft ballad would be the perfect thing. What you really want to look for in the book is the emotion. This whole book is just packed full of sadness. When Edward leaves Bella it is the sadest moment but the best kind of song would be one that tells a story of loosing the love of your life but finding them again and finding through that journey you appreciate and love them more. You left them for them and maybe some parts were selfish, but then you realize you really can’t live without that one person no matter how hard you try. That makes finding the person once again all the more special because you have a greater appreciation for who and what they are. Edward and Bella always seem to love more and more in each book. I think that would be the best song, you will see what I mean when you finish the book. GREAT IDEA! I will be back May 24th!

So I read the book and its great and I think that if you are still reading the book that you should keep I eye on a suffer thet Bella has to defet because she rally suffer in book. I think your idea is great, getting the fans involved to create the perfect song for new moon. I just love it:)
new moon has alot of saddness in it. when edwward leaves, bella goes into a sort of robotic depression, because deep down she knows just as much as he does that they are madly in love ith each other. but when bella confides in jacob, she knows edward is the love of her life, but feels disappointed and saddened that he left her. i think a song that portrays the emotion of being in love with someone but the fear of losing your one true love forces you away from them would be great.

Its me “Agian”, get it, lol. Any way you said that you didnt want any lyrical comments but, I have a great idea for the new song, its when Bella is going to go and find Edward and she is with Alice. When they reunite and all, after all of that is done, and then Edward finds out that she has this new relationship with Jacob. I have this song called “Foregive”, I wrote it myself and people say that it is really good so can you listen.It goes for all three of the characters,Edward, Bella, Jacob; if you can listen then here goes. P.S. I will be doing this agian on the 24th of May so youre not going to see the last of me.

hey, i think it is a gr8 idea that u want to write a song for New Moon.!!!!!! i am a massive Twilight fan so yeah go for it,, i think u should white a song about when edward leaves the relationship between Jacob and Bella or when edward says goodbye to bella. ummm i was wondering in know ur asking about urself for the music but can u PLEASE tell ur friend about the song Almost Lover by A Fine frenzy it is perfect for the scene when edward says good bye or wateva!!!! hope to hear ur song in the movie cause then i know i kinda pitched in lOl

well first of i would like to say what you are is very sweet. Well i am probably one of the younger twilight fans, at ten years old. I have read all the books multiple times. And well what you need to look for in new moon is all of bellas pain and her emptyness for the most part. If you want to go deeper, look for jacobs relationship with bella and at the end edward realiseing how much him leaveing hurts her. I really support what your doing. Hope the best comes out of this for you.

Hi ! uhm, i just heard of you’re band from a Twilight site that i have been following ever since the saga was up. I think making a song for new moon is a great idea, of course. I’d like to suggest that you make a song from the scene where Bella stops Edward from exposing himself. [to be exact, it's chapter 20:Volterra, pg. 451-452]. well, i hope it really does make it to the soundtrack. happy writing!

uhm..I should say you read the part where edward leaves bella in the forest and the part where alice and bella are going to italy(volterra) to save edward. Also the part where bella’s running in the middle of the whole crowd screeming edwards name.It really made me cry..huhuhu Y_Y(i still cry when i read it again and again). Im really going to try to help u make the song. i’ve been like day dreaming of it like after i known the movie of new moon.:)

It would be cool if you do a song who is like the whole new moon, but if i would choose one time, i would say The Volterra scen (Chapter 20: Volterra)

I just heard your song through the twilight examiner. I think a song would be great. I want a ballad. One that captures the hurt and the hole in her stomach the void that Bella feels when he leaves her in the forest. Im sure you havent got to that part yet. I have been heart broken and know the void that she feels inside. Can you capture that with a song?

JOSH! YOUR IDEA IS EPIC!
As a dedicated Twilight Fan, I must admit: I’m impressed! I think it’s a birlliant idea asking the real Twi-Hards about the passion and love between the Lion and the Lamb! Most people would just guess it’s like a normal love, and write a song anyway, so you should be quite proud of yourself for starting this!

I love AGAIN!! i think the lyrics are PERFECT for new moon!(i had to hold back tears lol) IF you do write another song for New Moon, i really think that when Bella Jumps from the cliff is a big part of New Moon and if you wrote a ballad for that part of the movie would be AMAZING. Just remember New Moon is FILLED with Heart-break! It is the saddest book, so just keep that in mind! I have been a major Twilight Fan for sooooooooooooo long now and im so happy to see someone getting so involved with the saga and its fans, like you are. I wish i knew about your music sooner!! I think that the music can really make a movie and if they want a good movie, they have no choice but to put your song in New Moon. Im gonna post your URL everywhere! i want people to notice your music. Im trying to be Helpful, But im sooo happy & excited about your music i cant think straight! I am a writer and the Twilight books gave me the strengh to hold on to everything I need to complete this mind boggeling task of finnishing my own novel. I want to make sure you guys do the best job possible for this song. We all know you have it in you. As a die hard “Twilight” Mom, I am excited for what you are doing. I think a part of the phenomenon of this “saga” is that , we, the fans, feel that it is our voice that “the higher ups” most listen to. (Not always, but for the most part) I applaud what you are doing and am thankful that you are reading the books. You can only truly understand if you read it for yourself. I love your music that I have heard so far and will spread the word. I would like to see someone, preferrably you, write a song that is truly gut wrenching. I am a pretty tough critic, but nothing compares to a song or book that makes you really feel what the characters are going through. As many have stated your best bet would be a ballad considering the tone of the book. However, I can’t believe that all of the music in the movie will be depressing. There are times that I can see a more upbeat song (for example, the birthday party, on the way to save Edward, riding bikes, outside the bar….take your pick.) To clarify, when I say upbeat I don’t mean happy, but pulsating like adrenaline coursing through your body. Which would be perfect for the parts I have mentioned. Good Luck with your music, and when you finish reading the book I hope that your “gut” knows which part to go with, and that the fan response will give you peace in your decision. I don’t think you can go wrong when you are willing to listen and really want to understand what the “fans” love. And of course by that time I suspect you might be a fan as well.

Hey, I think its a great idea to write a song. Your songs are really good.With New Moon you have to think about the facts. Why does Edward leave? Think about the relationship that blossoms between Jacob and Bella. Think about the secret Jacob tries to hide from Bella.

Congratulations on such a brilliant idea, and especially on realising your biggest resource is probably the fans. There are people out there who know the book inside and outside, and they’re definitely a valuable asset for such a challenge! So firstly, good luck!!
A couple of the people here so far have some great ideas. It’s got to be daunting looking at all these replies, so I’ll try and make it quick.
Ellen Lamont, Lene Mara. S. Steffenson have some great opinions, I’d definitely be taking a good look at their posts. The one that really jumped out at me though was Niamh, I think she’s spot on with that line. Bella did not resurface – it took Edward to bring her head back above the water.
Although this book is about Edward and Bella’s love, I think what you really need to capture is the fact that for most of the book it IS just Bella. And let’s face it, she goes pretty nutty. What she’s doing isn’t a healthy, normal, or even somewhat sane reaction to what’s happened. But I think that’s the point. Lene Maria is right in that Edward and Bella’s love is not a normal love. It is fate, and destiny, and all those things.
I think key points would definitely be Bella’s depression and the fact that she doesn’t resurface, that she has to really struggle to get anywhere near normal. And then just when she recovers a semblance of normality (albeit, she does jump off a cliff..) Alice turns up and the whole world is thrown back into chaos. The depression, the struggle, and the fact that Bella knows that she’s lost.. I think having some recognition to the fact that this isn’t normal, should be mentioned.
Anyway.. I’ll keep an eye out for this. Good luck, and hopefully what I’ve said came out somewhat how I wanted to and is somewhat helpful.

think about how bella feels when edward leaves her, when she rescues him in italy when she finally sees him for the first time in 6 months, and when he returns to forks
