I was interviewed last week by a handful of Twilight blogs in an online event hosted by Jessica, of simplytwilight.com. It was really fun and positive. I even got to sing a bit! We are truly living in a cool time, where artists and fans can connect and interact so easily. It’s ridiculous!
I just made this cool little widget, and would be honored if you “share” it, pasted it everywhere, emailed it everywhere, and spread the Secrets in Stereo love… well, everywhere.
It’s got everything you could ask for… music, pics, videos, and even my blog feed. Pretty cool, huh. Best of all, whenever I update it, your’s will be updated instantly.
So, SHARE ME!!!!!
Thanks!

P.S. For those of you who don’t know, I had a HUGE show in New York City this past week. It went amazingly well, and I will have an update, as well as pics and hopefully a video or two soon.
No. It’s not what you think. My song isn’t featured in the the movie, Twilight… not yet, at least. But, I wanted to share with you guys one more example of why it’s a beautiful time to be a recording artist in the music industry. Yeah, you heard me right. It’s a BEAUTIFUL time.
Forget about all those people you hear saying that it’s the death of the music industry and illegal downloads are killing music. Well, they’re losers. Instead of whining… adapt, and make the industry better than it was before. Anyway, I’m wandering off down a long and dark road.
Back to the point…
I noticed that my myspace and website traffic had increased a bit in the past few days. With a little research, I came across this video on Youtube. (see below) Well, it turns out that the person who posted the video tried to use one of the songs from the move, and all knowing and all powerful record company muted the video. Then, for some reason or another, the video poster chose my song, “Again,” as a replacement.
The video has been viewed 350,000 times at this writing, and has been, honestly, just as big as a TV placement for me exposure-wise. That couldn’t have happened 10, 5, 3 years ago.
And, that’s why it’s a beautiful time to be an artist. We don’t need the record label to tell us about new music anymore. We can tell each other.
Thanks fervt88!
P.S. I’ve had requests for the lyrics for this song. Ask and you shall receive…
Again
(Josh Ryan / Jason Collum)
If I had my way, I had my way
I wouldn’t change a thing, wouldn’t change a thing
Cause you’re my obsession
You keep me in the dark to see your spark
You’re keepin’ me guessin’
Messin’ with my heart. Got it down to an art
You’re eyes surprise me every time
You’re kiss it twists me, blurring the lines
And it’s the very first night all over
The very first smile and then
I’m falling for you
Again
You wreck my world, you wreck my world
You’re always that girl, always that girl
Who walked in the room and
I couldn’t look away. You captivate
So drawn to you, and I still feel that way
Some things never change
You’re eyes surprise me everytime
You’re kiss it twist me, blurring the lines
And it’s the very first night all over
The very first smile and then
I’m falling for you
Again
As you might know, I’ve been blessed to have a handful of songs on MTV. And, as I mentioned a while back, the network launched an exclusive website called SoundTrack, that features MTV artists. I was asked to be a part of that, but I haven’t really promoted it too much because I wanted to see how the launch went. Well, I can say confidently now that this is a cool site. MTV did it up right.
With that said…
Go check out my SoundTrack site!
Below, is a useful little widget that allows you to click over to the site, share the info with someone else, or (most importantly) vote for Secrets in Stereo!
“What does voting for you actually mean?” you might ask. Great question! Voting for me moves me up the all important MTV Soundtrack charts. This is valuable because it provides great visibility and buzz for Secrets in Stereo.
Thanks so much for your help!

P.S. I’m actually a “Staff Pick” right now. Pretty huge.
My new EP, “Wrong Side of Yesterday,” hits iTunes and other digital online stores TUESDAY, DECEMBER 16TH!!! As you can see with my “all caps” and exclamation points, I’m pretty pumped about it.
The album artwork was just completed, and I wanted to go ahead and share that with you. The photo was taking by a crazy talented photographer named Bradley Spitzer. And, the post-editing work was done by another talented guy, John Parker. The blue soles on the shoes were all me.
I had a photoshoot last week with a great photographer here in Nashville named Bradley Spitzer. He is fairly new on the scene, but should own the scene very soon. We had an awesome time, and I thought I would post a few of the images we were able to get.
If you listened to my recent mobile post, then you know what “The Acoustic Sessions” are. For those of you who haven’t, here is a quick rundown…
This past week I got all my co-writers from my debut album together, and went over to SortedNoise Studios here in Nashville. We basically set up a soundstage…audio, video, the whole nine yards (courtesy of the crazy talented, Jimmy Jernigan). Then, while tracking and taping, we talked about each song (where it originated, the motivation behind it, etc.), and performed them, as well as a cover called “The Last Thing on Your Mind” by Lights, acoustically.
This was an amazing experience for a couple reasons. It was really cool to revisit some of these songs and remember the stories behind them that we had forgotten. It was also really cool to get creative and experiment with the acoustic versions. You are so limited with what you can do, it forces you to be creative.
Anyway, I will be releasing the YouTube vid of the Lights cover in the next couple of weeks, and then all of my songs, one by one, starting in the next couple of months. So, stayed tuned! For now, here are some pics (also courtesy of Jimmy Jernigan), from the taping…
Jason Collum, myself, and Perrin Lamb performing “Not Today”
Jason Collum, myself, and Brian Van Meter getting ready to perform “Starting to Rain”
Nathan Walters, myself, and Jason Collum performing “Happy”
Me listening to the magic that was just created
I will be putting up more pics like these on “The Images” page very soon. So, come back and see me!
Talk to you soon,
Joshua
P.S. Thanks to everyone who helped make “The Acoustic Sessions” happen! Check them out people…

Hello all. Here are some images (courtesy of Kenneth P. Welborn) from a show I did in in March at On the Rocks in Nashville. They are just cell phone pics, but you get the picture. (No pun intended… actually, yes. There was a pun intended. That was on purpose.)
My debut release has recently been reviewed by two very noteworthy websites. The first is the Barton/Holt Ad Agency-run tunejar.com. And the second, a prominent indie music e-zine called indie-music.com.
From tunejar.com…
“Secrets in Stereo, a project by Josh Ryan out of Nashville, proves that indie music doesn’t have to be sloppy, or ‘raw’, or quirky, or any other adjective usually associated with what we call indie music today. Secrets in Stereo lets us know that good indie music can actually be- dare we say- ‘pop.’ Whether it’s the anthemic “Not Today,” the One Republic-esque ballad “Happy,” or the Yellowcard pop-punk of ”All the Things I Hate,” the music is good…period. It’s polished, each song is well thought out and crafted, and the lyrics are universally meaningful. It’s unashamedly pop, and at the risk of getting blogged about by indie hipsters grousing the insanity of all things main stream (ironically most likely while carrying an iPhone and sipping a starbucks), i will unashamedly say that it’s great music that needs to be heard.”
From indie-music.com…
“Hooks galore! Nashville-based songwriter Josh Ryan and Secrets in Stereo know how to write ‘em, sing ‘em, play ‘em and package ‘em up for the MTV tween to twenties crowd. On the self titled debut release from Secrets in Stereo, Ryan and co-writer/producer Jason Collum, deliver some really punchy pop tunes.…the boys do know how to write a song, to that there is no doubt. They also know how to tap into the tricks of arranging to make the songs fun to sing along with and easy to dance to. I don’t see why these guys wouldn’t have a publishing contract in the near future.”
Thanks to T.J Stafford and Darryl Gregory for their kind words.
I’ve been waiting so long to get back on stage. It really is my home. It’s taken a while to feel confident enough with my new material to be ready to entertain. I’m ready now.
I just booked my first show with the new material. It’s going to be in Nashville on Saturday, March 8th at a really hip, cool joint called On The Rocks.
The bill will be myself and 3 other extremely talented artists…
Facebook has finally gotten into the music page world. It’s very cool, and should be huge. Luckily, I’m on the front end of this. If you have a Facebook account, click on the banner below and add me.
I wanted to give you guys a little update about where I’m at as far as the recording process goes for my new project, SECRETS IN STEREO. It has been a crazy and exciting 2 months, but easier than my past projects because from the initial writing sessions I really felt like these were strong songs. That makes the process way more fun, because you are starting from an extremely positive point. Actually, the hardest part about the process so far is making sure whatever you are tracking lives up to the song. Which is a good thing.
At this moment, all I have to track is a handful of background vocals and some percussion. After that, the tracks will be sent to mix and should be ready for a little taste on myspace (that rhymes) by mid September.
Thanks for checking in, and I look forward to you hearing the new tunes at SECRETS IN STEREO myspace.
Since the MTV airing, I have had a bunch of people ask for me to post the lyrics to “Happy.” Your wish is my command…
“Happy”
Collum/Ryan/Walters
I wanna be
next to you
and watch you while you sleep
holding you
lost inside
every breath you breathe
i dont wanna live a day without you
i just wanna be the one that makes you happy, happy
i dont wanna live a day without you
i just wanna be the one that makes you happy, happy
one minute more
a thousand years
it’s all the same to me
cause i’m incomplete
and i need you more
with every breath i breathe
chorus
i try to let you know
but my words get tangled up
and every time i find that i’m
outside looking in
can’t let this moment go
when you’re the only one
that makes me feel the way i feel inside
lately i’m falling for you
lately i’m falling for you
Sorry I haven’t blogged in a while. (i’m sure you’re about to fall off the edge of your seat.) It’s not because I have been lazy. I promise. I have absolutely been working my arse off writing and preparing to record my debut album as “SECRETS IN STEREO.” I am unbelievably excited about the songs so far. Can’t wait for you guys to hear. Seriously. Sook for it in september.
Also, I just wanted to let you know that my 2 song EP, “Happy,” was just released on itunes.
buy it…gift it…spread it.
Thanks guys and gals. Talk to you soon.
P.S. For you non-itunes people…the EP should be up on Rhapsody, Napster, Myspace, etc. very, very soon.
Sorry I haven’t been posting as regularly lately. Life has been a tad crazy. Good crazy and bad crazy.
Right now, I’m sitting on the couch with my severely sprained ankle elevated. That’s the bad crazy. I injured it late last week playing softball. It turns out, I’m not young anymore.
Up until that, I was having a pretty good week, and riding some positive momentum. I think the ankle was the Big Guy’s way of letting me know who was in charge.
Pre-injury, I had gotten word from MTV, Sony Television, Warner Bros. Television, and ABC Television that they were really excited about the music, and were going to try to find placements for the songs on their respective shows. So, stay tuned on that.
Also, the results from my recent writing sessions have been awesome. I just finished a song with lee hester called, “All the Things I Hate.” It’s pretty rad. And I’ve got two more that are close. That’s the good crazy.
Anyway, I know I say it a lot, but stick with me. I think some cool things are going to be happening soon.
joshua.
P.S. I’m not the only one in the family with positive momentum. Remember I told you my brother Jason was hired to be former Backstreet Boy, Brian Littrell’s, drummer. Well, he was also called to audition for Carrie Underwood. At the time of this writing, he is one of the final four drummers and should know something soon.
I had a teacher in Czechoslovakia contact me a few days ago. He teaches english over there, and he wanted to use my song “Beautiful” in one of his exercises.
I know it’s not a big deal, but it’s kinda cool to think that my words will be helping someone learn this language.
Everyone can calm down, and quit yelling at me now. I have some new songs up. They should be up on itunes within the next month. But for now, you can check them out on myspace.
“No Such Thing” is more of the radio friendly song, while “Happy” is a little more t.v./film.
Enjoy, and let me know what you guys think.
Sorry it took so long. It will never happen again. I promise.
