Posted on 02 February 2010 by josh

movie_theatre_sms

You know all the programming they have before movies these days? Well, one of the things they do is feature emerging artist’s music. And for the month of February, I will be one of those “emerging artists,” and my song “Not Today” will be played on over 17,000 movie screens across this great country.

I’m pretty pumped about it. So, when you go to see a flick with your honey on Valentine’s Day, listen for me!

Step Outside (but another artist’s version) featured on MTV’s Jersey Shore

Posted on 28 January 2010 by josh

Most of you know of my song, Step Outside. But, most of you don’t know it was also recorded by my co-writer / artist / buddy Lee Hester. Well, his version was featured on the Jersey Shore episode called “Just Another Day at The Shore.” Cool!

If you’re interested how we interpreted the song differently (fun!), take a listen to his version…

my reality of love and “the one”

Posted on 31 December 2009 by josh

I hope everyone is having a glorious holidays. This is an off-the-cuff, late night post inspired by the movie, 500 Days of Summer.

50days-of-summer-poster

If you haven’t seen it, do it. It’s unbelievably well done, and unbelievably realistic. At least for me. Basically, it’s a story about two points of view on what love truly is and how to recognize it… Real life vs. Fairy tale. That conflict hit home for me. So, I thought I would go with it and see where it led me. Let’s take a walk…

I probably fall somewhere in the middle of the debate. I would call myself a “realistic romantic.” I would like to believe in the happy ending in the movies, but unfortunately, I’m not “hopeless” enough to not know what goes on after the credits. I’m very aware of the real life struggles of couples. So, what’s the answer… Is there really such a thing as “The One” that gives you butterflies every time you see her? Do you know who they are the second you say hello? Or, do you just fall in love? And after the honeymoon phase wears off, you’re left with a compatible companion, so you do the best you can?

After watching the movie, I was inspired to answer these questions for myself (I think everyone has a different, but right answer). My journey to a conclusion started with two thoughts…

1. My realistic side told me that I had no evidence of “The One” yet. I think I’ve been close. Once, the feelings weren’t mutual (Much like the movie). And another time, I couldn’t quite be sure (Again, like the movie. You see why it hit home now, huh) And, if you can’t be sure, then it doesn’t fit the definition of “The One,” right?

2. Although, I’ve seen a lot of my friends’ relationships come and go, my fairy tale romantic side was still stronger than my realistic side. In fact, it might be getting stronger as I get older.

SOOOOO… having unveiled those two revelations, does “The One” actually exist? To be completely honest, I have no freakin’ clue. But I do know this… I want her to. And that’s all that matters. I want to believe that one day a pair of eyes and an introduction are going to silent a crowded room around me. I want to believe that someone is going to make me a better person every single day I’m with her. I want to believe that I’m going to enjoy spoiling someone rotten one day. I want to believe that after 30 years of being together I can say “You know, we never really argue.” I want to believe that I can get butterflies at 80. And as long as I want to believe in those things, than I don’t want to settle for anything less. So, why would I?

Like I said, everyone has their own right answer. And believe me, I realize my mindset might very well leave me old and alone one day. But, in reality, I still think that’s better than “doing the best I can” with “The Two.”

Thanks for taking a walk with me. Nighty-night!

WANNA HELP ME MAKE MY NEW ALBUM?

Posted on 01 December 2009 by josh

Yep, you heard me right.

A couple of months ago, I decided it was time to start a new project. But, I also decided that just writing, recording, and releasing an album wasn’t going to cut it this time. I wanted to offer an experience bigger than that. So, I asked myself the question… “What could an artist, that I was a fan of, do to really pump me up and get me excited?” The obvious answer for me was, let me help them make an album. I want to hear songs right after they’ve been written. I want daily updates from the studio. I want to decide whether a song should be on the album or not. I want to name the album itself. Well, that’s what we are going to do.

Today, I’m launching the first step in that journey. As most of know, It’s going to take a nice chunk of change for an independent artist like myself to make this happen. So, I’ve created some amazing pre-sale packages to get the ball rolling. These aren’t your typical pre-sale packages, I promise. For example, in one of them, I will write a song for you, fly you to Nashville, you’ll be there in the studio as I record your song, you’ll sing on that song (if you want), and then we’ll go grab dinner. How’s that for typical? And, just so you know, I don’t make a profit on these. All the money we raise with this goes to record, produce, mix, master, print, distribute, release, and promote this new album.

You can check out all the packages at www.secretsinstereo.com/newalbum

Here’s the most important thing… Included with EVERY package , is a username and password that unlocks a secret part of my site called “Secret Society.” This is where you will get daily updates from the studio, and I will get your feedback all through the journey.

This is going to be unbelievably cool, and I can’t wait to get started. But before we do, I need your help spreading the word. Because let’s be honest, it’s not going to be too fun when the members of The Secret Society are me, my mom, and two other people.

So, what should you do right now?

1. Watch the video below. It explains everything.

2. Go to www.secretsinstereo.com/newalbum and pick out a package that works for you

3. Spread the word by clicking one of the buttons at the bottom of this post, or whatever is easiest for you

Thank you so much for your support! This is a crazy idea, and one that (as far as I know) hasn’t been done before. Let’s make this happen!

Hey guys and gals!

You’ll have to listen quick.  It’s only a ten second instrumental that leads into a commercial.  But, hey… it’s The Hills!   Also, I’ve heard from a reliable source that the big wigs at the show really like the music.  So, hopefully there will be some big features in the near future.

Tune into MTV tonight, and stay tuned to SIS.com!

my song “No Such Thing” featured in the CBS promo for Three Rivers

Posted on 11 October 2009 by josh

three_rivers_hi

Hey guys and gals!

If you are watching NFL football today on CBS, you might have heard a familiar sound.  My song, “No Such Thing,” was heavily featured in the promo ad for their new show, Three Rivers.  I’ve heard it a few times today, and I must say, it’s pretty cool every time.

So, even though my fantasy football teams are getting their jocks handed to them (and I’m sure my Tennessee Titans will be close to follow tonight), it’s always a good day to hear your voice on national television.

“All the Things I Hate” the theme song for a cool new internet show

Posted on 28 September 2009 by josh

Hola!

My song “All the Things I Hate” was chosen as the theme song for a new internet show called Palisades Pool Party. It’s a fun little show right now that stars Ashley Schneider (Extreme Movie, South of Nowhere), but is hoping to be picked up by a major network and not be so “little” anymore.

Check out the pilot…

songs featured on Dr. Phil and Animal Planet this week

Posted on 11 September 2009 by secretsinstereo

Hey guys and gals! Over the next 7 days, two of my songs are going to be featured heavily on TV…

jockeysdr-phil

Tonight (Friday, September 11th) my song, “Step Outside,” (co-written with Lee Hester) will be on the Animal Planet show, Jockeys. I haven’t seen this show, but I’ve heard it’s pretty cool. The show airs at 9 Eastern.

Then, the big one… All next week, my song “Falling” (co-written with Jason Collum) will be featured on the 2nd highest rated daytime show on television, CBS’ Dr. Phil Show (You can guess who’s #1. I’ve give you a hint… it rhymes with “Roprah”). Next week is the premiere week for the show, and my song will be used in a recurring promo for the rest of the upcoming season. It’s a 2 minute promo, and “Falling” will be used for over half of that. Pretty cool.

I hope you get to check these out with me!

welcome to the new and improved secretsinstereo.com!!!

Posted on 10 August 2009 by josh

Notice anything different?

Yep! My new site is finally live. And while there are still a few more features to unveiled, it’s still a big improvement. My goal was to have a site that was easy to navigate, offer innovative features, and provide a place where we can all hang out. I think that was accomplished.

Two buddies of mine helped make this all happen. John Parker and Jimmy Jernigan put in some serious time, and I can’t thank them enough. Check them out, and tell ‘em I sent ya!

Enjoy the site everyone!

To kick things off, I’m joined by the super talented Nathan Walters at Sorted Noise studios to lay down some tasty tracks.

SECRETS IN STEREO WRITES A SONG FOR NEW MOON – EPISODE 6

Posted on 10 July 2009 by josh

Hello all!

SOOOOOOO… the video of Episode 6 below contains a “first listen” of the song we are writing for New Moon. It’s called “Vanish.” But, before you press play, I wanted to set it up a bit.

First, I’m writing the song with two amazing songwriters who I’ve worked with many times before, Jason Collum and Nathan Walters. As we were trying to decide our direction with the song, we were really inspired to look at it from Edward’s point of view. Really get into his head leading up to, and during, this process of forcing himself to separate from Bella. In doing that, we found that his situation isn’t all that uncommon, and one we all had been through at some point. Which was interesting.

This is a difficult song. Not necessarily to write or perform (although it’s not exactly easy to perform), but “difficult” in a sense that it is the “anti-love” love song, in a way. Even, if the words aren’t the truth. They are still going to hurt. It is written from a dark emotional place.

Secondly, the performance on the video is the first time we played the song all the way through in its entirety. I did this because I want you guys to see how the song develops from you what you hear now, to what it will eventually become. It’s going to be very cool.

Also, sorry for the shakiness and weird “neck” shots. It is apparently very tough to shoot and sing a song for the first time simultaneously.

Enjoy “Vanish”
