Tonight is the season finale of The Hills. The show has been really good to me over the years. And while I don’t have a song featured in the finale itself (Booo!), I’m super lucky to have three songs featured in the retrospective recap show called “From the Beginning” that airs right before the finale (Yea!). The songs are “Happy,” “Starting to Rain,” and “Wrong Side of Yesterday.” So, listen up!
Most of you know of my song, Step Outside. But, most of you don’t know it was also recorded by my co-writer / artist / buddy Lee Hester. Well, his version was featured on the Jersey Shore episode called “Just Another Day at The Shore.” Cool!
If you’re interested how we interpreted the song differently (fun!), take a listen to his version…

You’ll have to listen quick. It’s only a ten second instrumental that leads into a commercial. But, hey… it’s The Hills! Also, I’ve heard from a reliable source that the big wigs at the show really like the music. So, hopefully there will be some big features in the near future.
I finished the book! There is such a sad tone throughout. I felt like, even when the characters were happy, they were still sad. Does that make sense?
I will say this… I have a new respect for Stephenie Meyer as an author. Amazing writer. I have only seen “Twilight” the movie, and I honestly got a very different vibe from the characters (and the story, in general) in the book as oppose to what I saw in the movie. Interesting.
Anyway, on to Episode 2…
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

As you might know, I’ve been blessed to have a handful of songs on MTV. And, as I mentioned a while back, the network launched an exclusive website called SoundTrack, that features MTV artists. I was asked to be a part of that, but I haven’t really promoted it too much because I wanted to see how the launch went. Well, I can say confidently now that this is a cool site. MTV did it up right.
With that said…
Go check out my SoundTrack site!
Below, is a useful little widget that allows you to click over to the site, share the info with someone else, or (most importantly) vote for Secrets in Stereo!
“What does voting for you actually mean?” you might ask. Great question! Voting for me moves me up the all important MTV Soundtrack charts. This is valuable because it provides great visibility and buzz for Secrets in Stereo.
Thanks so much for your help!

P.S. I’m actually a “Staff Pick” right now. Pretty huge.
For the second week in a row, The Hills used one of my songs in a key moment of the show. The song is “Step Outside,” and the moment is when Audrina moves out. It actually ends the show. Very cool.
I found out today that my song, “Starting to Rain” was featured on MTV’s The Hills. This is a pretty big deal for me. Having a song on that show was one of my short term goals, and it feels pretty rad to accomplish it.
Below is a video of the episode it appeared in. It originally aired on October 20th, and the name of the episode (#411) is called “You’ll Never Have This.” My song starts at 16:24. It begins after an awkward conversation between Audrina and Justin Bobby, then ends right before an awkward conversation between Stephanie and, king of all douchebags, Spencer Pratt.
Today, the song featured on The Acoustic Sessions is an anthem called “No Such Thing.” It’s probably my favorite song, lyrically, on the album. It’s about truly making an attempt to live each day as if it’s your last. Which just so happens to be my motto.
The song has been featured on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy and MTV’s The Paper.
It’s time for video #6 of The Acoustic Sessions. The song this week is “Again,” and it was written by Jason Collum and myself. It’s a song about what a solid relationship (in my mind) is about. And that’s falling in love with someone over and over… you got… again.
Can you believe we are half way home with The Acoustic Sessions? Remember, on November 4th you will be able to download everything you’ve heard on itunes.
This week’s song is an aggressive little rocker called “All the Things I Hate.” It’s basically about all the games that girls (and guys) play, and how it just makes you want that person even more. Have you ever been there?
The song was featured on MTV’s Shot of Love with Tila Tequila, and I hope you dig it.

P.S. I apologize in advance for the lame “magic” trick I pull in the intro.
That’s the only word I can come up for this one. I found out the other day that my song, “Starting to Rain” was used a few months ago in an E! show called Keeping up With the Kardashians. The significance of this is what, you ask? Well, besides being on a show that changes people’s lives, the placement means that all 10 songs off of my debut album have been featured in major TV/Film projects. An album that’s only 9 months old. That’s pretty rad.
Anyway, I thought I would pass that info along. I’m excited about it, and I feel like it’s just the tip of the iceberg as to what’s in store. I hope you hang around for the ride.
Josh
P.S.
Here are some of the shows my music has been placed in these past few months…
This week’s video from The Acoustic Sessions is “Happy.” The song was my first featured TV placement (MTV’s Engaged and Underage), and it’s a good ‘ole love song. Oh yeah… it was also featured on ABC’s Private Practice.
I’ve been getting a huge amount of requests for me to post the lyrics to “Step Outside.” Ask and you shall receive…
“Step Outside”
Lee Hester/ Josh Ryan
Maybe
This is just pretend
We really haven’t lost our way
Baby
My heart is caving in
I don’t wanna hear the words you say
The air is getting thin
It’s hard to breathe
I think I need
To step out side
We..re both gonna lose
We’re both gonna win
Tonight
Cause it’s time to say goodbye
Crazy
How I miss the innocence
I didn’t know it could hurt this bad
Wish we
Had a second chance
But the first chance is all we had
Chorus
I’m letting you go
But I don’t want to
And won’t let it show
How it makes me feel
To say goodbye
Goodbye to you
Chorus
I don’t know what I should
I guess I’ll have to get over you
I don’t know what I should
I guess I’ll have to get over
I don’t know what I should
I guess I’ll have to get over you
I don’t know what I should

So, here is the second video of ten from The Acoustic Sessions. The song is “Step Outside.” It had a great feature last night on an MTV show called Exiled, and the response has been amazing. I’ve got a ton of new Myspace friends and I’m pumped about it.
Enjoy, and don’t be afraid to SHARE the video with everyone you know… and even a few you don’t !
P.S. If you missed the show last night, you can watch it at mtv.com. JUST CLICK HERE!!! The song kicks in with about 1 minute left.
I just found out my song, “Step Outside,” is going to featured on MTV’s new show called Exiled. It’s a spin off of their show, My Super Sweet 16. Basically, they reconnect with the spoiled little brats a few years later, and give them a “real world” experience. In the first episode, the chick gets sent to Africa. Interesting.
Once I find out the date and time, I will let you guys know. In the meantime, check out the trailer HERE.

So, MTV has a new show right after “The Hills” called “The Paper.” It’s a reality show that follows a high school newspaper in Florida. At 10:30 pm Eastern on Monday, April 21st, my song “No Such Thing” will featured in the show. It should air towards the end of the episode.
A couple of thoughts on this placement…
One, this is my 4th song placed on MTV in the last 8 months, and I feel like I’m developing a really cool relationship with them. They are very cool people, and it’s been a great experience so far. They are even creating a “Secrets in Stereo” band page for me that should be up by Monday.
And two, “No Such Thing” is an interesting song for me. Although I like all the songs on my record, it’s probably my least favorite as far as how it turned out overall. But, on the other hand, it’s my favorite as far as the message… truly realizing daily that each day might be your last, and to live it to the fullest.
It should be fun to see how MTV uses the tune. Find out with me on Monday!
